STYLUS FOR SHURE M97 SERIES 78 CARTRIDGE

The replacement for the Shure N78S needle stylus is the 78 RPM stylus used with the Shure M97 Series phono cartridges. The stylus features a highly polished 3.0 mil diamond designed specifically for the correct tracing of the wide grooves of 78 RPM records. It results in minimal groove wear and accurate rendition of voice and music.

A very common misconception is that you can use an LP stylus for playing 78 RPM records. This is one quick and sure way to damage the 78 RPM record grooves. To maintain the playback fidelity of your 78 record, you really need to use a stylus designed for 78 RPM records, otherwise with just a single playing, you could ruin the fidelity of the record grooves. Moreover, the LP stylus is much narrower than the 78 RPM record groove hence the tip will slide to the bottom of the groove where debris has collected for many decades. This results in extraordinarily high-surface noise.

Will Make Swapping Simple

Glad I was able to find a stylus that will simply insert into my existing Shure 97 cartridge. Will make it a simple stylus swap to check out a set of 100 year old 78's inherited from my parents but not yet played.

A Must Upgrade

I've purchased this stylus and I have been listening for about a month now. My first impressions was "wow!" The original stylus that I had wasn't actually shot but just thought maybe it time to replace it just because, and I'm glad I did. By replacing with the new stylus I was able to hear things that I've never knew it exist from some tracks. It's more crisp, clarity, and detailed. This vintage Stanton 681eee with this new shibata stylus are a great sound piece. I just sure hope this item won't be discontinued or else I'll be sad. Cheers!

The staff was excellent. I was able to order over the phone and the needle makes my music sound grat.

That's perfect.

The exact right stylus

I needed a stylus for a vintage Pickering. Perfect fit, great performance. Yeah for durable goods!

Had the needle for my 35yr old phonograph. Amazing thank you.

Sounds great, with a caveat...

As the title suggests, this stylus sounds very good. But it is lacking in the very highest registers (tinkling sleighbells, watch chimes, etc). Until it is inserted into a 66 series or one of its many clones, then that upper register comes alive. Empire made 2000s with at least 2 different electrical specs, those around 500 ohms impedance, and those around 1000 ohms. The 1000 ohms models suffer high treble loss, while the lower inductance/impedance models do not.
