N44-7 Needles / Stylus

Just better than the Rest
The Shure M44-7 is considered the world's best-sounding DJ pickup. It has better sound over the Ortofons, Stantons, Numarks, Pickerings, Grados, Audio-Technicas, etc. It has better low-range, it has better high-range, it has better stereo image. Concorde-types don't exactly fit the standard interchangeable headshell mount that is found on Technics SL-1200s —the DJ Industry standard, which can cause dropouts. Overhang, or the distance beyond the center of the platter where the stylus sits when you pull the tonearm over the diameter, is also irregular on Concordes and can result in tracking distortion. The point is that with a cartridge that you mount on the headshell yourself, there's the high possibility of getting the overhang just right.

Sounds Nasty, It's great!
Any DJ cartridge is a compromise—because much of what lets the stylus take the kind of abuse that comes with cueing, backspinning and scratching is at odds with what would make them sound great! But that's because they present techno records as they were meant to be heard and enjoyed: Big, Heavy and Perfectly Nasty.

It's a cartridge that deals with such a difficult task that produces a sound that's actually favorable in the club. that makes it genuinely impressive with a design that manages to balance ruggedness and invulnerability to skipping with its own kind of musicality.

Music is Multicontextual
At LP Gear, we believe music can be beautifully expressed in many different environments: at home, at a record studio, radio station, and at a dance club. We believe that products should offer multigenerational, multicultural and multienvronmental enjoyment. Thus we curated this cartridge as celebration and esteem for the historic Shure M44-7 cartridge; so devoted and new owners will continue to hear this gem at its best for lifetimes to come. It is a loftly goal — we believe its new soul transcends its original self. It has incredible chemistry and emotion with vinyl playing that connects, is heard, felt and enjoyed!

Below are N44-7 stylus replacements of various capabilities ranked by LP Gear for your DJing, playing, and listening journey.

New Life to a Vintage RXT5

This Jico N97xE stylus was a worthy replacement for a worn stylus on my RXT5 cartridge. It is mounted on an LAB-500 turntable, into a Harman Kardon 730 Twin, playing through all original Micro Acoustics FRM-1AX speakers. The separation, the transients, the clarity, it is all just incredible. This is the best this system as ever sounded. This is classic vintage audio at its best! Kudos to the customer support team who recommended this stylus. I could not be happier!

Perfect Fit

I was refurbishing my childhood turntable and LP tubes was the only distributor that seemed to carry the appropriate drive belt. After installing it and lubricating several components, my records are playing at perfect BPM again. Works just like it did new in 2004!

Back on the BLOCK!

I wasn't sure if my SHURE V15-typell cartridge was still in good condition and I decided to go to LP TUNE for a stylus replacement to test it. LP TUNE is reputable, always has what I'm in need of, has fast reliable service, and always at the best reasonable prices. So, I got the VN-15E, and YES the cartridge is still in great shape! Next, the SAS-B, and of course, from LP TUNE.

New life.
