AT3600 ATN3600L Needles / Stylus

Released in the 1970's, the AT3600 cartridge and its variants, specifically the AT3600L are the most ubiquitous cartridges in the world! Its notoriety as a giveaway-throwaway cartridge resulted from decades of incorrect positioning as the factory fitted cartridge for the cheapest turntables. The practice lingers today.

Cultural Icon of the Turntable Renaissance
In 2000, recognizing its durability and ubiquity, LP Tunes experimented with the AT3600L and found that its sound quality could be improved with the installation of higher quality styli, which LP Tunes subsequently followed through with finely crafted Japanese models. Rega followed and raised the status of the AT3600L with the introduction of the Rega Carbon cartridge and Rega Carbon stylus.

Not to be outdone, LP Tunes released in 2015 the highly esteemed Carbon Fidelity CF3600LE cartridge with its special elliptical CFN3600LE stylus. Stereophile rates the CF3600LE cartridge as a Class C Recommended Component — The same class as the Ortofon 2M Black ($695), Denon DL103 ($349), Ortofon 2M Blue ($239), and Audio-Technica AT-VM95C, E, H, ML & SH (up to $199).

With ten million estimated former and present users, it has achieved significance and influence as a cultural icon of the turntable renaissance and the 2000s.

For Multigenerational Enjoyment
AT LP TUNES®, our philosopjy runs counter to conventional wisdom. We believe that products should offer multigenerational enjoyment or much longer like the Guarneri violin. Older than the USA — 273 years old to be exact, the Vieuxtemps Guarneri Del Gesu-1741 named for its most famous owner the leading Belgian virtuoso and composer who esteemed it so much he wanted to be buried with it, recently became the most expensive viloin in the world, selling for an estimated $16 million. Its new owner anonymously donated the historic instrument to violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, on loan for the rest of her life.

Thus we curated this cartridge as celebration and esteem for the historic AT3600L cartridge; so devoted and new owners will continue to hear this gem at its best for lifetimes to come. It is a loftly goal — we believe its new soul transcends its original self. It has incredible chemistry and emotion with vinyl playing that connects, is heard, felt and enjoyed!

LP Gear is a wonderful niche business!

I recently went on a bit of a stylus bender since bending my very costly Jico SAS B (for my Shure v15iv). I purchased a replacement, which after tarrifs came to nearly $400! I styli'd up for all my ortofons and shares so that A) I had good, new styli for my records' health, but also for better sound. I got LP Gear's house branded replacement styli for my vintage Ortofon VMS carts and my 2 Shures.
One thing I asked for, the LpGear branded stylus appeared to be identical to the Jico "budget" solution that LPGear offered for $20 more. I asked if some of their house branded offerings were OEM from Jico. I never heard. Based on this, and the fact that the images for the LPGear and the Jico on the web page were identical (one was rotated 180 deg), I concluded that the LPGear is likely a Jico. I didn't get a reply. :( But overall I'm thrilled with the purchases and the service. I highly recommend.

Wonderful Companion to Shure SC35C

Purchased based on the other review here and several posts on various forums stating this stylus was great for the Shure SC35C, as it tracks at half the weight of the standard stylus while still minimizing noise on old, well loved records. I'm happy to report they were 100 percent accurate. Records that were so noisy and full of pops and clicks are now much more enjoyable with several becoming almost dead silent. This combo is now a permanent additon to a dedicated turntable for well loved records that I don't use on my tables with higher end cartridges. I have enjoyed it so much I also have a second headshell with this combo to swap between my other turntables. Make sure you give it some time to break in as is common with all styli, it will continue to get better with use. If your still getting lots of noise with this combo your records are most likely still dirty and I suggest you invest in an ultrasonic cleaner. If that doesn't help the record most likely is trashed. This is a great stylus at a great price! Most replacement stylus for discontinued carts seen to be to getting quite expensive and I suggest buying several now as they will only get more expensive as time goes on like everything else has been.
